A removable or secondary window sash is an extra glazed sash that is usually mounted inside the primary window frame. The extra sash improves the window's insulating properties, reducing heat loss and increasing sound protection.
Records from 1667 mention removable sashes covered with oiled paper at the Copenhagen Castle. Glazed removable sashes were introduced in northern Europe around 1730.
