In 1942, Villum Kann Rasmussen a Danish civil engineer and entrepreneur developed a new roof window made of wood with an exterior zinc cladding. It was given the name VELUX, derived from the word ventilation and the latin word for light, LUX. In 1945 a pivot hinge was invented to tilt the sash around its own axis.
